Viral video of women in revealing clothes waving at a crowd in cricket stadium in Pakistan

Rating Justification

The iVerify Pakistan team investigated this content and determined that it is false.

To reach this conclusion, iVerify Pakistan conducted a reverse image search to trace the video’s original source and examined various clues to determine the stadium’s location.

Posts from multiple users on social media platform X since December 16, 2024, were circulating a video clip showing women in revealing clothes waving to a crowd in a cricket stadium with users claiming it was from Pakistan. However, the clip is from an application’s launch in Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

HOW IT STARTED

On Dec 16, a user, who appeared to be a PTI supporter based on their past posts, shared shared a video on social media platform X of women wearing bikini tops and waving at a crowd in a cricket stadium.

The post was captioned: “What is happening in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan?”

The post gained over 259,000 views.

Another user shared reposted the video, racking up 56,400 views.

The video was also shared by a user who seemed to be a PML-N supporter and PTI critic, gaining 169,500 views.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and the seemingly contradictory nature of women wearing revealing clothing publicly that goes against the country’s laws and conservative social norms.

A reverse image search yielded a longer and better quality clip shared by a TikTok user on Dec 14. Although the video had no caption, users claimed in the comments that it was filmed at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Another video shared on the account from the same day clearly showed “Sharjah Cricket Stadium” written on the roof of the stands. One of the banners also showed “Mate launch event”.

“Mate launch event” was also present on a banner seen in the original viral video.

A keyword search for “Sharjah Cricket Stadium” and “Mate launch event” on TikTok yielded several similar videos from the application’s launch event at the venue on Dec 14.

Posts about the event were also made on the social messaging application’s and the stadium’s official Instagram accounts.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE:

The claim that a viral video of women wearing bikini tops in public while waving at a crowd is from a Pakistani cricket stadium is false.

The video is from an application’s launch event at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Dec 14 and has nothing to do with Pakistan.
